A friends group is taking the future into its own hands with the launch a new neighbourhood plan.
Earlier this year the Friends of Fishwick and St Matthew’s was awarded a £20,000 cash boost from the Department for Communities and Local Government.
And now the group has launched a ‘Neighbourhood Planning Scheme for Inner East Preston’ and is consulting people in the area about what improvements they want to see.
Coun Martyn Rawlinson said: “This is about people taking action to improve their local neighbourhood.
“Local people are having their say about Fishwick and St Matthews and this will all be taken on board in the new neighbourhood plan.
“Like any neighbourhood Fishwick and St Matthews has its issues, its strengths and areas that need work.
“This plan promises a real way forward for the whole community to work together to improve Fishwick and St Matthews for the benefit of everyone.”
Having better access to improved green space; traffic congestion and car parking; improved community facilities and measures to tackle crime are all part of the consultation with local people.
The group has started visiting schools and consultation events will be held in the coming weeks.
